A post with pictures

On Monday I went strawberry picking with Micah and Sarah after work. It was fun, and I've realized that I like strawberries much more than I thought.

No tmuch has been happening around here lately. We went to a different church than usual last Sunday. It was nice.

I'm working on a cotton sweater that is seeming to take forever because it's so boring. It's starting to hurt my wrists so I think I need to switch to a different project for a bit.

I made socks for Father's Day for my dad and Todd's dad too. I lost the pictures of Earl's socks, but here are my dad's. Kind of silly to be giving wool socks in summer but I'm sure they'll be useful later on.

Last night Todd and I were looking at photos from a few years ago and we have decided that we need to eat healthier and get more exercise. So we've posted some photos of us on our fridge for inspiration so hopefully we can get back to looking more like that. We did pilates together last night to kick off this new resolution. Hopefully we actually keep up with it.

I made a sweater a few weeks ago. It was made with the yarn that Toni sent me from Australia as a thankyou for taking her son shopping and skating. I like it pretty well. It's not perfect but it's good enough. It was quick and easy.

That's about it for now. If I think of anything fun, I'll try and post it.

Credit

I was just doing some online banking and I realized that I accidentally paid my last Mastercard bill twice! So now I have a credit of $350. That's kind of a nice mistake to make - better to pay it twice than not at all and to be gaining interest.

Still, I've got to pay closer attention to my money.

sleeeeepy

I'm posting from work. It's almost 6am. I've been here since 2 pm yesterday. It has been a long day.

To start off, we were short staffed last night, and just the way the evening went I felt as though I did the bulk of the work (not really anyone's fault - shifts just go like that sometimes) so I was already tired. One of the guys was having a rough evening so there was quite the commotion in the house and I was lucky enough to be the one where his anger was directed (no I didn't get hurt, just yelled at a lot). Then one of our night awake staff called in sick. I called every single person who could possibly work (even one guy who's getting married today - just joking of course) but no luck. So I stayed. Technically I was doing a night sleep shift but I have now learned that a night sleep shift does not involve a whole lot of sleeping. Everytime a guy got up to use the bathroom (which is a lot) I woke up. Plus I was sleeping on a couch in an unfamiliar place without my normal blankets, and no nice husband to keep me company so you can probably guess how well I slept.

I'll be happy to get home. But I was glad to be able to cover the shift. Stuff like this comes up fairly often and our team always pulls together and gets shifts covered. I haven't been able to be a part of that yet at this house so now I feel just a bit more established on the team. Silly I know.

Todd and I may go look at couches today. We pretty much hate ours. It was like $50 bucks at a garage sale and we have a somewhat sketchy slipcover on it that takes a ton of work to keep straight. I also want to look at paint to maybe paint our bedroom.

Sorry this isn't a more interesting post - my brain is a little fried. If I could write more about work I could have you all very well entertained but there's this whole confidentiality thing and it really would not be fair to the guys I support if I were to share their life stories on the internet. They are awesome though and I have so much fun working here. The other day I was patted on the head like a little girl (or a puppy) by one of the nonverbal guys. I'm not sure what he was trying to tell me but it was cute and I felt a bit special. :)

K. That's it. Bye

My Dichotomous Brothers

Pretty much anyone who knows me has heard stories about my brothers. They are some of my favourite people in the world and I talk about them a lot. It's annoying - I know.

But for anyone who hasn't yet heard my stories, here is a brief summary along with some photo evidence of how different they really are.

Jordan the Jedi
The older of the two, he's 18. He's a gamer, an intellectual, and artist - a Geek. He writes his own comic book series and publishes them on the Internet. He plays Nintendo all the time and is always on the computer. He's smart and works really hard at school and loves every minute of it. He wants to be a teacher. He has no coordination and no athletic abiloty. He and my mom sewed a full set of Jedi robes which he wears out in public - to the mall, school whereever. He's got the Padawan haircut (like Anakin in Star Wars Episode 2, and Obi Wan Kenobi in Episiode 1) with the little ponytail in the back and the long braid off the side. He's been working on it for over 4 years. He just purchased a top hat and $120 worth of fabric to sew himself a cape. He never stops talking.

Here we are playing Mario Dance on Gamecube - it's pretty much his only physical activity other than moving his thumbs for all his other games.

Jessiah the Cowboy
Jess loves his dog, his horse, his knives and his guns. He's 16 and kind of a redneck. He's smart but hates school and tries to get out of going as often as possible. He's an archer and has competed at the provincial level. He is currently on the training squad for the national competitions. He works a lot at a pig farm and a powder coating plant in order to buy better equipment for his bow. He kills raccoons on a pretty routine basis in the summer and skins them. His friends all get together for "rabbit parties" where they catch a rabbit, kill it, skin and clean it, cook it, and eat it. He used to kill pigeons when he was six years old, with a homemade bow and arrows, and my mom would cook them. Jessiah rarely speaks unless spoken to, and even then not much.

Here is a photo of us riding horses last weekend.

Conclusion
I know they're different but I think they rock equally.

Thought of the moment

Glasses are kind of like jewellery for your face.

For Kris

Recipe for Braeside-Easy-Make-Cake
1. Buy a pack of Sauce 'n Cake at Dollarama.
2. Since you don't have a measuring cup, use a teacup.
3. Since you don't have eggs, substitute milk for the water.
4. Since you don't have a baking pan, mix it all in a pot (but NOT the pot you use to shave your legs with on the picnic table!)
5. Make sure that you break off the handle of the pot so it doesn't melt.
6. Since you don't have an oven, bake it in the toaster oven.
7. Because your timer is broken, make sure you set it twice while also watching another clock.
8. Enjoy!

Puppy

I went to visit my family this past weekend. It was a perfect visit. Busy enough to not be bored, but relaxed enough to not be stressed. I got to spend quality time with everyone in my family which was really good. I also took lots of pictures which is something I often forget to do. So expect photos for the next few posts.

My parents's poodle, Chenille, had a baby three weeks ago. Here's a picture of the mom:

And here's some of the baby:

Pretty different eh?

One Tree Hill

is awesome. I've been watching it like crazy lately. I'm quickly working my way through the third season and I'm continually impressed by it.

My in-laws came up this weekend. My brother-in-law Ian stayed here for a couple days. We had a great conversation about theology about Mary and the saints and other Catholic/Protestant differences. He is a great guy and I have tons of respect for him. I love having good conversations like that.

At work yesterday I got to have some more good talks about church doctrine and stuff. It's good to have people around me who challenge me to not only think about what I believe but to be able to put it into words and debate it. I've kind of missed that since leaving Waterloo.

Update on my grandpa for thse who asked: They thought they'd be able to fix his heart but did an angiogram and realized there's nothing to fix - his heart is just weak. It's fuctioning at roughly half of its full capacity so he's feeling like crap. Basically I guess there's nothing to do but manage the pain and wait.

Did I tell you guys that Jessibeth bit me last week and made me bleed? I was so mad at her. She peed on our bed last night and we had to change the sheets. She's a pain sometimes but she is so cute that it's worth it.

Can't tell ya about any of my knitting because it's all gifts. I finished a sweater recently but I still need to add a zipper.

That's all I've got for now - sorry I'm boring.
