Settlers

Last night we went over to Micah & Sarah's place to hang out. They made us some very yummy chicken barbeque pizza and we played games after supper. Despite some objections from Micah, we played a round of Disney's Scene It. It's a fun game, but it's pretty simple. I guess it's made for kids. After that we played 3 rounds of Settlers of Catan. Todd and I had never played that before and it was great! I think we'll get our own set someday. It's a great game because it's built on simple concepts but it's very intricate. I didn't think I'd like it. I'm glad I was wrong.

Today we went to church and then to Value Village where I found a cute handmade sundress with ruffles. I also bought a huge (badly) handknit scarf that I'm in the process of ripping apart for the yarn.

I just ordered a mug online that says Eat Sleep Knit and has little pictures. I've been looking for a really big mug with some sort of knitting slogan on it to keep at work so I don't get confused as to which one is mine.

Todd starts his new job at the fancy architecture firm tomorrow. He's excited. He even bought new pants. I'm excited because this means that for the next 4 months (minimum) we won't be living on just my income. It'll be so nice to be able to have some extra money coming in so I can pay back more of my student loans.

Did I tell y'all that I registered for a college course online? That won't be my favourite thing to be doing but I need to get it done. The day that I found out that I'd need to do a couple more courses to be qualified for my job I cried. I'm not that upset about it anymore (obviously - that would be ridiculous) but I'm still not thrilled.

In general though I'm super happy right now. I'm starting to get friends finally. I'm going to a staff appreciation dinner in a couple weeks with some friends from work. Should be good.

Starstruck

Thanks to Danielle I figured out the comments problem and it's all fixed now so your comments should all be showing up. When I was going through the comments I realized that Cyn from www.pinkhairedgirl.com has been reading this. I felt sort of like I had met a celebrity. I've been reading her stuff for a few years now and she's smart and witty and funny and she knits and I didn't think she'd stop by here so that was pretty cool.

I had kind of a rough night at work last night. I'm very glad to have the weekend off. Hopefully we do some cool stuff. I've been wanting to buy a ball for a while and I think I'll get one today. I have a whole list of toys that I want: a hula hoop, a ball, a skipping rope, and I just bought a kite. I actually bought a skipping rope already but it's a bit short so I need a new one. I can't skip in my apartment because we have crazy people living under us so I was skipping at work last night. I suck pretty badly and need to practise.

I'm never really sure hwo to end these posts. They always seem sort of lame and half-done.

Today

Todd just got a new job for the summer - he was hired by an architecture firm here in Ottawa for a co-op term this summer. That's awesome! It's going to be great experience and he'll be making more money than I do!

I had a lunch date with my Lizzie, my friend from work today. We found a Thai place that has pretty good food. Then we went to Dairy Queen and sat outside to eat our ice cream. It was good times. I love working with her and I'm glad we get along so well. She makes me laugh so hard.

I was so full from lunch that I didn't want to eat supper so I had more ice cream a little later instead. Chocolate. Mmmmm. We have neopolitan ice cream at work. Micah won't eat chocolate and I only eat chocolate so we make a good ice-cream eating team.

Work was great today. I'm making steps in accomplishing some of my personal goals. I signed up for a college course online to work towards getting my DSW Equivalency which will give me a sizeable raise and my bonuses will double. I'm hoping to have that done by the end of this year.

I got an email today from Tanya freaking out about the scarf that I sent her. I love that girl. I'll post pictures of the scarf on here at the end of this post. I've been knitting gifts lately so I can't tell you much about them. Not that y'all care much anout knitting anyways.

Todd has a friend over. They're playing Lord of the Rings Risk. Geeks. ;)

We're hanging out with people on Saturday which I'm glad about.

Are my comments working? I have a suspicion that they're not. Can someone try to leave a comment and then email me if it doesn't work? Thanks.

That is all. (said like Clifford from Spice World)

Presents!

I got a parcel in the mail the other day from that Australian lady whose son I went shopping and skating with. She sent me an INSANE anount of yarn! She pretty much doubled my yarn stash. I'd post pictures but I doubt you people care. I think the only knitter who reads this is Tanya (btw Tanya, watch your mailbox) but if I'm wrong and there are more knitters out there, let me know and I can show off my yarn. Anyways, she sent me 12 balls of wool, 10 balls of cotton, 6 balls of alpace blend, and two sets of awesome knitting needles. Wow.

Another day I came home from work to find a dozen roses at the front door. Todd bought them for me as a thankyou gift for putting up with him always being at school (and for Easter, which is better for me than chocoltae since I'm trying real hard to be better at being Diabetic.) I will post pictures of these because everyone likes flowers.

:)

I came home from work last night to find a dozen red roses sitting just inside the door. Todd bought them for me a a thank you for putting up with his crazy school schedule lately. They smell beautiful.

Funny thing - we don't have a vase so he put them in the blender!

Little Toos

I need to preface this story by saying that when Todd is asleep or just waking from sleep it's like he's drunk. Especially when he's waking from a nap.

so...

Last night, Todd was napping while my mom, sister and I were hanging out. When it was time for us to get ready for bed I went to wake Todd. (He was in our bed because he was supposed to sleep in the living room but that's where we were talking.) Anyways, I was holding Jessibeth and I set her on his shoulder. This is the conversation that followed:

Todd: "I can see little toos on my elbows."
Me: "What?"
Todd: "I can see little toos on my elbows."
Me: "What did you say?"
Todd: "I can see little toos on my shoulders."
Me: "WHAT?"
Todd: "I can feel little toos on my shoulders!"

At that point I left, laughing, and told Amber. What he was trying to say was "I can feel little toes on my shoulder."

I came back a few minutes later after brushing my teeth. Jessibeth was still sitting on Todd's shoulder and he seemed more awake. Amber stood at the door to listen in hopes of more confusion.

Me: "Todd, do you remember just talking to me?"
Todd: "Yes."
Me: "Do you remember what you were saying?"
Todd: "Yeah... what I meant to say was..... the wall..."
Me: "What wall?"
Todd: "What I meant to say was, the wall goes around the corner."
Me (laughing so hard I could barely talk): "What wall?"
Todd (sounding exasperated): "The wall with the slats."
Me: "What building are you talking about?"
Todd (totally frustrated now): "What building have I just been working on?!"

Turns out he had been dreaming about a building he's been designing and working on non-stop for the past month.

Wow. Life with this boy is an adventure.

I Got Mail!

I came home today to find a package in my mailbox. I've been waiting for this package for what seemed like forever.

Remember when I said I was knitting squares for a scarf square swap? Yes? Good. I received the finished scarf today. It has 10 different squares knitted by a bunch of different people. It's GREAT! It's all shades of black, white, and gray. I'm wearing it as I type. I would post a picture but Todd has the camera at school with him.

Ouch

I punched myself in the nose today. Really stinkin hard. So hard that it made me laugh and cry at the same time. And not just little crying, like watery eyes. No, I'm talking big tears dropping off my face and making little puddles. Mostly I was crying because I was laughing at how absolutely uncoordinated I must be to even be capable of punching myself in the face that hard. (And maybe a little bit from pain.) I iced it because I don't want it to bruise. How embarassing would it be to explain that?
"What happened to your face?"
"Well, you see, I punched myself."

It still hurts.

Good Pharmacist and Old Friend

My Pharmacist is the best! Most of you probably don't really have much reason to appreciate a good pharmacist but I deal with pharmacies a lot and this one is the bomb. I walked in today for some cold medicine and the pharmacist greeted me by name. He then told me that I was due for a new filling of one of my prescriptions and had it done up for me in no time. I'm the only person that uses my specific kind of insuliun and he stocks it just for me. He knows exactly how long it takes me to go through a bottle and so he always reorders at the right time so I'm getting fresh stuff. Amazing. After years of dealing with Shoppers' Drugmart and their incompetence it's awesome to be able to deal with a small place and to get the kind of service they can provide. Plus, it's right across the street from our building.

I went to the Bulk Barn today to stock up on jelly beans. They were on sale so I bought over 10 pounds worth. It cost me $16. I hate jelly beans in general so I was glad to get some funky flavours to make them a bit better to take. (For those of you who don't know, I use jellybeans to boost my blood sugar when it drops too low so for me they're like medicine.)

I'm currently online chatting with a friend that I haven't talkd to since the summer. Jon is a camp friend and he's awesome. He's supersweet and a kickass drummer. http://www.armyoftherisen.com/

Binny Pig

One of the guys I work with has been asking me to bring Jessibeth to visit for a couple weeks. I finally brought her in today and he was so excited to see my "binny pig"! It was cute to see how much he liked her, and how well behaved she was! I'm sure I'll be bringing her back again since she was such a hit.

My wrist has been killing me lately from knitting so much so I've been trying to do other things. Here's a t-shirt I made last night.

Skating

I met up with that Australian guy again today. He had never been ice skating and really wanted to try it. I lent him Todd's skates and we bussed it all the out to Orleans to their arena. It was quite amusing to watch someone who had never skated before. He had never even worn a pair of skates, or roller blades or anything. It took half an hour to circle the rink 4 times. He fell a total of 6 times, but most of those were in the first 5 minutes. I had a pretty good time, and I laughed a lot!

On the bus on my way home I saw a muslim lady who I'm pretty sure was breastfeeding her baby. I have no problem with breastfeeding in public - I fully plan on it myself someday if need be - but I was really surprised to see a muslim doing that. She can't uncover her head but she can whip out a boob on the bus? How weird is that? I guess it's somewhat similar to the Amish, not being allowed to have phones of their own but then using ours every single day. Interesting.

Yarn and Mango

I bought new knitting needles today. I splurged and bought the expensive ones. I'll be using them to knit with my fancy wool I bought with my birthday money so I thought it would be okay to go all out. I'm going to make a sweater. It'll be lovely but I'm afraid it'll also be itchy.

I can't talk about my current knitting project. It's a gift but it's almost done. I'm also working on a pair of socks for myself, and a shawl to use of some yarn that I've had for a couple years.

I brought mangos to work last night. I borrowed a friend's car last week to do grocery shopping and I bought a whole case of mangos. Now they're all turning ripe at the same time and I can't eat them fast enough so I've been sharing. I gave two to two of the guys I work for. They'd never had mango before so it was an adventure. They both really liked it so I was glad. They're my favourite fruit.

I need to go write some thankyou cards now. I got a few gifts of money in the mail recently and I've been meaning to reply to the people but haven't done it yet. I was really grateful for the money so I should go let them know.

See ya!

Check it out

I got my haircut today.

I didn't have anything else to do and my hair's been bugging me lately so I went to the mall and got it cut. No one knows yet. Todd hasn't seen it. I like it. It's just above my shoulders so that's pretty short for me.

That's all I have to say for now. I'm going to watch Oprah.
