Not a loser

I found this note on Facebook. Supposedly if you have seen 85 or more of these movies you have no life (a.k.a. you are a loser.) I just make it into the not a loser category. I have seen way too many movies though, this list just doesn't include the type of stuff I like. If it was mor e Disney, kids' films, and old black and whites I would have scored much higher.

I am a loser though for taking the time to do this stupid thing.

Wilbur

Yesterday I had plans to hang out with a friend but he told me I had to choose what we would do for the day. So I chose to visit a sugar bush just outside of Ottawa. I've been missing the country lately and I know my family is making maple syrup at home and I always wish I could explore the area surrounding the city but without a car that's nearly impossible. So he thought it was a good idea and off we went. Unfortunately the sugar shack, gift shop, and pancake house were closed that particular day (which their website had neglected to mention) so we explored the barn instead. They have a variety of animals you can pet including some cows, horses, a goat, sheep and most importantly a pig. The pig's pen was open so he could run around the barn. He was tiny, just a bit bigger than the cats. He was very friendly and wanted to be petted. I fed him a jelly bean and I think he liked it because then he followed me around the barn for the rest of our visit. I climbed a fence to look at a huge horse and I felt something tugging at my feet. I looked down and saw that the pig had the hem of my jeans in his mouth and he was trying to pull me down. We watched as he stole bunches of the horses' hay and carried it back to his pen to make a nest. He started bumping me from behind and Alex said that he thought the pig was trying to bring me to his pen. It turns out he was! He steered me right to his pen and when I wouldn't go in he stood on his hind feet and tried to push me with his front hooves. So cute! I wish I had brought my camera. I'm now convinced that I need a pet pig some day.

24

I accidentally planned a sort-of birthday party for myself this morning. I made plans to go yarn shopping with my friend Diana without realizing that this was my birthday. Then I invited Becky, and shortly after Darcie. So today we all met up at Knit Knackers, a super cute yarn store downtown Ottawa. Diana was kind enough to invite us all back for tea and cake at her place. It was nice and small and cozy and exactly the way I like to party. We drank tea and wound our skeins of yarn into centre-pull balls and have a very nice time.

I went directly from there to work where I got to work with a bunch of my friends. Lizzie & Christine surprised me with a cake and it was fantastic. (The surprise and the cake!) They went all out - using a blindfold and getting a chcoclate Extreme Blizzard cake from Dairy Queen. 4 layers of chocolate. Mmmmm.

So, today was a great birthday. And to make it even better, the celebrations actually started last night. Todd took me out for dinner at a nice Thai place and gave me a gorgeous pearl necklace. I'll have to tak e apicture sometime to share but it's modern and simplistic and beautiful and REAL. It's nice to have something that I know has worth attached to it even though it scares me because I break most things I touch. I'll just be extra careful with this.

Also, I bought angora yarn today which makes me happy. It's very very soft, like a little bunny.

Thank you to everyone who made my day so wonderful!

A Slice in Time

Right now:
  • my apartment smells like wet sheep and lavender
  • my burps taste like fish
  • i'm sleepy because i was just woken up by hooligans yelling outside and low blood sugar
  • my feet are all nice and moisturized (this is a feat for me to achieve... I have insanely dry skin)
  • my guinea pig is making little noises in her cage
  • all my dishes are done
  • i am going back to bed

the BEST place on earth

DisneyWorld was my absolute most favourite part of our vacation. I've thought about it every day since we came back and I can't wait to go back for longer. We only got to see about half of the Magic Kingdom but that was enough to make me crazy with excitement. You can see the craziness in my eyes in the photo below. We're riding on the Magic Carpet ride in the Agrabah part of Disney World. I met the Genie and Aladdin and Princess Jasmine! I got my pictures taken with all of them (stood in line twoce with a bunch of tiny children) but the photos are on my mother-in-law's camera. My main hope in going to Disney World was that I would meet Princess Jasmine so I was pretty excited. She told me that I had red hair like her friend Ariel. Pretty funny eh?

The photo of the lost boys is from the Peter Pan ride. It's one of my favourite rides there. I remembered it from when I went there as a child so I made sure to go back to it. It was the longest line we stood in all day but it was worth it.

Vacation

Todd and I went on vacation to Florida and a cruise to the Bahamas at the beginning of February. This is my favourite photo from the Bahamas. We went to Ardastra Botanical Gardens & Zoo. They had flamingos that marched accoriding to military commands. They also had pigs. I like pigs and this one seemed to maybe like me too.

Eventful Weekend

Wow, I haven't posted in a long time. Sorry guys. I have had a very eventful past few days though so here's an update on my life.

Thursday I went skating with Todd and some friends. I wiped out twice but neither time was bad and I was okay. No big deal, but I did have bruises and was kind of sore the next day.

Friday I was in a wee bit of a car accident at work. My coworker was driving when we were hit from behind. A bit of whiplash warranted a trip to the chiropractor but she said I seem to be fine and maybe I should come back early this week. My coworker is a bit worse, she went to the emergency room the next day and was told she has a sprained neck. She gets to take a few days off work. I'm still a bit sore but overall okay. My two best friends, Kris & Morgan, came to visit Friday evening. We went to the Build-A-Bear store and Morgan & I made bears (well, mine's a lamb.) We went to The Works for burgers after that. My lamb came along.

Saturday we all went skating on the canal. I wiped out hard. I banged both my knees so hard that I had to sit in the snow and have a little cry. Oh man it hurt. Now I am really sore.
I dyed my hair black Saturday night and we drafted up a tattoo design for the 3 of us.

Sunday I got my first tattoo.

I hope my parents don't care. I don't think they really will since I'm married now and I'm only responsible to Todd, but still.... We'll see.

Pictures won't upload right now so I'll add some later. Or you can check them out on Facebook.

Traditions

The picture on the left is Bre after Christmas dinner in 2005. On the right is Christmas 2006. I love Christmas. No matter how much changes during the year, that one time of year is always the same.

Internet Friends

Hey Everybody! I would love to post pictures from our Christmas holidays but it seems we have lost the cord that connects our computer and camera. Hopefully I'll buy a new one today.

I went out a few weeks ago with my two internet friends, Melissa & Julia, and I got a picture of them that I can share here. We went to a craft show together and it was the first time they met each other. I like having crafty friends in the city.

I'll post more later, hopefully when I'll have pictures.

1985

My brother-in-law Ian has been staying with us for the past few days. He gave us our gifts early so we wouldn't have to bring them all the way to our parents, open them and bring them all the way back.
<--- This is what he gave me. A Barbie! I was so excited! (Still am actually.) I love Barbies but it's not a gift you typically give to an adult unles they're a actual collector (which I'm not, I just think they're pretty) so I was surprised. Ian knows me well. :)
She's a vintage 1985 Holiday edition, complete with stand. This is not my photo but one off the internet. My doll looks the same though.

We're leaving tonight to visit our families for Christmas. We'll be around their area until Wednesday the 27 th when we'll head back to Ottawa. If you want to see us, give us a shout at either of our parents places, we'll be going back and forth quite a bit.

Merry Christmas!

Sick

I finally used a sick day. Thursday night I was up sick to my stomach in the middle of the night and even though that has passed, I've just been a bit off ever since. I am so exhausyed I can hardly move. I hate calling in sick but I figured I need to in order to get better. Hopefully this does the trick. I've done nothing all day and it's been great, but I'm still tired. We'll see.

6 Weird Things

I'm taking this from my uncle's blog. He was tagged by someone. The rules are as follows: You write a blog post stating six weird things about yourself. You then tag 6 of your blogging friends, telling them to do the same. I'm nto going to actually go and tag anyone because I'm lazy so I'll just write a list of people I hope will do it. Here's my list: Victoria, Justin, Kris (you can write more than 6 if you need to Kris, it's okay), Jordan, Lizzie, Wes, Cynthia D., and Danielle. Anyone else can as well, of course.

Here are my six:

1. I love football movies but do not like football.

2. I am fascinated with death. I seriously considered being a funeral director/mortician at one point.

3. I am not very good at video games but I am quite good at Dr. Mario and often Tetris.

4. I love fat things. Fat people, animals, anything. (I wouldn't mind being fat.)

5. My left leg is about 1/2 inch shorter than my right leg.

6. I am allergic to Humulin brand insulin but not Novorapid. The Humulin eats away my fat and leaves little craters on my stomach.

To keep up with my trend of showing you my Christmas ornaments, here is another photo.

Exhausted & Excited!

I am so tired. I dislike working mornings and I just came off a string of 4 with today being a 12 hour shift. Tomorrow I'm off though and then I'm working afternoons and this particular week of afternoons I particularly like.

Thursday I spent most of my day at the Museum of Science and Tech with one of the guys I work for. It was great. We played games and saw all sorts of interesting stuff. It was a nice relaxing shift, which I needed after the past couple weeks.

Enough about work, I actually do have more in my life than that (although sometimes it doesn't feel like it!) We have a Nintendo Wii! It is very very cool and Todd's been playing it like crazy since we got it. We had Keith and Darcie over last night to play and it was fun. If anyone living in Ottawa wants to come over and play, just give us a shout!

Also - Todd is taking me to see the NUTCRACKER on Sunday!!! I absolutely love the Nutcracker. I've seen it like 4 times already but I'm always wanting to see it again so I am thrilled! This is his Christmas gift to me.

Tomorrow is a Christmas party with my work, and in two weeks we'll be going to the Christmas party for his office. If I can get my shift covered this Friday we'll be going to a party with our Sunday School class. Parties everywhere apparently.

Deck the Halls

I bought a Christmas tree today. It's 4.5 feet tall which is the perfect height to sit on our end table. We decorated it and it's very cute. I don't have any pictures yet but hopefully soon.

For now I'll leave you with a photo of our apartment door:

And Victoria sent me an email/survey thing. I'll respond to it here rather than by email.

It's a muscial life story survey. Here's the soundtrack of my life, based on the following rules: 1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc) 2. Put it on shuffle 3. Press play 4. For every question, type the song that's playing 5. When you go to a new question, press the next button 6. Don't lie ---

Opening Credits: What Sarah Said - Death Cab for Cutie

Waking Up: Halloween - Rent Soundtrack

First Day At School: Coloured People/Entertaining Angels Smashup - dc Talk & the Newsboys

Falling In Love: Where the Stars Go Blue - Benthany Joy Lenz & Tyler Hilton (One Tree Hill)

Fight Song: Between You and Me - Relient K

Breaking Up: Glad - Tyler Hilton (One Tree Hill)

Prom: In Love with the 80s (Pink Tux to the Prom) - Relient K

Life: I Shoudl Tell You - Rent Soundtrack

Mental Breakdown: The Return of the King - Lord of the Rings Soundtrack

Flashback: Get Down/All Fall Down/Dive Smashup- Audio Adrenaline, Grits & Steven Curtis Chapman

Getting Back Together: Blue Eyes - Cary Brothers (Garden State soundtrack)

Wedding: Everybody's Fool - Evanescence

Birth of Child: Day By Day - House of Heroes (remake of dc Talk song)

Final Battle: It's Only Love - the Beatles

Death Scene: 12-Bar Original - the Beatles

Funeral Song: Twilight and Shadow - The Lord of the Rings soundtrack

End Credits: Masquerade - The Phantom of the Opera soundtrack

Haha, so that was kind of silly. The only song that was really fitting was the Prom one - the song's alternate title is "Pink Tux to the Prom." If anyone feels like taking this and doing it on your bloog, please do. They'd be fun to read.

One More Thought

Jessibeth chewed into my insulin pump tubing today. So... she may have gotten insulin in her and I may have gotten guinea pig saliva in me. Hopefully we both survive. I'll let you know how it turns out. :D

Trim a Tiny Toilet Tree

Todd has gone out to see the new James Bond movie with some guy friends of his. I'm sure none of you are surprised that I would rather stay home and knit.

I was at a Behaviour training course for the past 3 days. My job sent me, but the course was run by a different agency here in Ottawa. While there I found out that I could work as a Behaviour Consultant since I have a psych degree and experience in the field. It would be a much more professional type job and would pay more but I don't think I'm ready to grow up that much yet. I'll keep an eye out for job postings though. It's nice to know that I could actually use my degree for something if I chose to.

The Santa Claus parade is tomorrow morning. I thought about going but the waeather's been nasty so I'll watch on tv instead. I love parades.

I signed up for a Degrassi swap on craftster.org. Did I already tell y'all that? I'm super excited and have some ideas of what I'm going to craft already. I've just got to get started!

I inhaled too many marker fumes today and now I have a headache. I think I'll go to bed.

Oh - I should mention today's decoration: The little tree in sitting on our bathroom counter. I think the tiny ornaments were originally from my Oma. I bough the little tree so they would have something to hang on. Last year it was our only tree (It's a bout 10 inches tall.) This year I want a 4 foot one to stand on our end table. Maybe we'll go buy it tomorrow.

Funny story about bathrooms - at work the other day one of my coworkers (not a native English speaker) told one of the guys to go "wash your hands in the toilet." Obviously he meant "toilet" as the general term, meaning "washroom" but that's not how I initially understood it. I thought he was out of his mind for a minute.

Now, off to bed.

PrincessJazz

When the movie Aladdin came out, I was obsessed with Princess Jasmine. For about a year I constantly pretended in my mind that I was her, and I had a huge imaginary tiger named Rajah who followed me everywhere. It was a fun pretend, but eventually I realized that it was kind of insane (after all, I was like 12 years old) so I gave it up.

But I still have a special place for Princess Jasmine in my heart and thus lots of Disney Princess merchandise. Here's a list of how Princess Jasmine plays a part in my life:

  • Up until I got married I had Princess Jasmine besheets. They are now our guest sheets.
  • I had Princess Jasmine (and Barbie, but I'll get to that another day) dishes.
  • I have two Jasmine barbie dolls.
  • I have a 3 foot long stuffed tiger toy.
  • I have this awesome Christmas ornament -->
  • My display picture on my cell phone is Princess Jasmine.
  • My cell phone rings "A Whole New World"
  • And finally, this isn't really merchandise, but I came down the aisle to "A Whole New World" at my wedding. Some people didn't think that was the best choice but it actually sounded very good (cello solo) and it was perfectly suited to me.
  • Also - she was the inspiration for my online username PrincessJazz. (Obviously).

Les Cochons

  1. One of my many nicknames in my family was/is Chunky Pig. Not ever meant in a mean way, and I'm not even sure where it originated, but it resulted in me receiving muliple pig-related gifts.

  2. Which leads me to #2. --> This Christmas tree ornament. I love it. I love fat things and this piggy is just the right amount of fat. I decorated my apartment a couple days ago and I will try to remember to share some of my favourite decorations with you over the next little while.

  3. I added a little "virtual pet" at the top of my blog. Technically it's a hamster but I say it's a guinea pig. Jessibeth the guinea pig to be more exact. Play with her. It's fun.
  4. I washed the real Jessibeth in the bathtub the other day. I used ferret shampoo so now she smells nice and I'm sure it's much better for her fur and skin than people shampoo. She's happy about it. I can tell because she's talking more. She makes a little noise that sounds like "wheek." Very cute.
  5. I'm pretty sure I had something else to say about pigs but I forget right now. If I remember later on, I'll add it.

P!NK

As you can see, the purple tinge to my hair has faded away and it's more the way I wanted it to be. It's even pinker now because last week I overdyed with the extra pink I had left to fill in the really faded spots. It's still pruple, but with more of a pinkness to it. I like it. Todd's even starting to like it. These pictures are from a few weeks ago. I'll have to get more recent ones sometime.

Just around the corner!

It's November! That means Christmas is coming! Soon! I'm pretty excited. I feel a little late thsi year as I have no decorations up yet although I've been playing the Christmas tunes for the past couple months. And I've got a great start on my kitted gifts - 4 down, 2 to go (more may be added later.) Now I need to start shopping in earnest, I've been buying little things here and there since August. I'm heading out to a Christmas craft and gift sale in a few minutes and hopefully I'll find some good gifts there. Today is just to look, I'll be going back Sunday with Julia and maybe then I'll do some buying. I love craft shows! Hours of entertainment! Haha, okay I know that's dorky. I thoroughly enjoyed the Needlecraft Fesitval I went to last week. I've wound much of the yarn I bought into pretty little balls ready to be knitted into stockings for Christmas. Which reminds me, I should get started on those as well.

Happy November everybody!

Lyrics

"Never knew how to be free, till God gotta hold.
I was blind but now I see, lost but he has rescued me.
Now I'm where I'm meant to be since God gotta hold on me"

I forgot how much I loved this cd until I started listening to it again. Even Todd has declared it good, which surprised me. It's not his style of music. Semi-cheesy mid-nighties Christian music is my love, not his. But oh, how I love it. Anyone know who the artist is? I know there's at least one of you who does.

Transatlanticism

Justin - you need to blog something soon! I have no idea what's going on in your life and it stresses me out. Plus, I kind of miss you.

Now on to everyone else - How are y'all doing? I'm doing great! I went to a needlecraft festival with my internet friend Julia on Friday. It was great. I bought a bunch of wool for cheap and I saw a lot of things that I had previously only seen online and in knitting magazines (KPPPM, certain kinds of Noro, Namaste glass needles in funcky cases, Handmaiden yarn, etc.) Also I learned that the Yarn Harlot (see link at right) is coming to Ottawa on November 9! I am so excited! I am going to book the day off work just so I can go see her.

I'm going to meet another craftster.org member in real life sometime soon. I don't know her real name yet ( I keep forgetting to ask) but I found out that she lives only a 10 minute walk from me (1 min from my work). Crazy how people you talk to online can actually be so close to you and you may never know! I wonder if I've ever passed her on the street or sat near her on a bus or stood behind her in line while shopping? Good chance I have. Weird eh?

Audrey

Audrey Hepburn is my favourite actress ever. She's beautiful and funny and cute and classy. My favourite movie of hers is Breakfast At Tiffany's in which she plays a high class call girl who is in love with a writer/gigolo (from what I can tell, given that the movie was made in 1961 they are very vague on what these peoples' occupations actually are.) I first watched this movie in grade 8 at a sleepover with a bunch of girls who I'm not really in touch with any more (except for you Becci) and I've seen it countless times since. All of this is why it was perfect when Todd brought me back a matted print of this movie poster from New York, where the movie takes place. What a perfect souvenir! And to make it even better, today he bought me the Audrey Hepburn dvd collection with Breakfast at Tiffany's, Roman Holiday, and Sabrina. I eventually want to see all of Audrey's movies. If you haven't seen any go out and rent one (well at least the girls who read this, guys - these probably aren't your type of thing but you could rent one to impress a girl.) That's my advice for the evening, watch some Audrey. She's a darling.

Violet Hair and Violent Dreams

Lizzie hooked me up with this cute knitting template. I love it!

I woke up at 5:30ish this morning because I was having a rotten nightmare. If Todd had been here, I would have rolled over, cuddled up to him and that would have been enough to break the spell of the nightmare... but he's still in new york so there was nothing to snap me out of it. Every time I would doze again I'd be right back in the terrifying dream so I had to get up at 5:47 friggin a.m. I watched the Office and ate breakfast and knitted for over an hour before I had to start getting ready.

I went to the post office today and the postal worker asked if he could touch my hair. Weird eh? I let him because I don't really care. It just feels like normal hair but everyone wants to touch it for some reason. This was the first time a total stranger asked though.

When I'm walking around shopping or whatever I notice people looking at me oddly (almost suspisciously) which totally weirds me out until I catch a glimpse of my reflection and remember that I have purple hair. They probably think I'm some sort of badass teenage punk. Which is hilarious because I'm none of the above. A woman at work told me that every time she would see someone with hair like mine on the street she would automatically assume they were goth or something but now that she knows me and has seen me with purple hair she won't make that assumption as much.

Ridiculous people.

I love fall.

I love that autumn brings the perfect walking weather. I walked to church this morning and it was beautiful. The only downside is the wind which hurts my ears. Good thing I'm a knitter and have toques to match almost anything! Here are some photos from a few weeks ago when Morgan and I went walking in Big Bank Spring Park.

Girl Time

So I had my sleepover and it was great. We didn't ened up watching any movies because we talked all night. Seriously almost all night. Diana and I were up to almost 5am. We all got up at 9:30 because people had various places to be. I had 6 girls come over and 4 stayed the whole night. Lizzie and Christine left around 3:30 am. We ate so much junk it was awesome. We didn't even have room for the ice cream sundaes there was so much other food. There was an easy solution to that dilemma though - sundaes for breakfast!

Saturday morning after everyone else left Darcie stayed to help clean up and then we went for a long walk to the yarn store. She wants to learn to knit Christmas Stockings. (She's on a very steep learning curve as she didn't really know how to knit at all before hand!) I went to a chili cookoff with the Rideauview College and Careers group and laughed at people playing Dance Dance Revolution. Then I accompanied Darcie to her husband's hockey game to watch him play. And we knitted. We actually paid a bit too much attention to the knitting and we didn't see all of the goals Keith scored. I think he was a little sad. But Darcie's stocking is coming along great! I was afraid she's be sick of me after spending that much time together but I don't think so because she even fed me hot chocolate. I'm happy to have another friend now.

Mmmmm

I feel like I've been living on candy the past couple of days and my sugar is still always low. As much as I enjoy candy I think maybe I should adjust my insulin levels. This is a good thing.

I spent $60 at the Bulk Barn yesterday. I borrowed a friend's car specifically so I could stock up on jelly beans. They are just too heavy to carry home a decent amount on the bus. I've figured out that I've been going through my jelly beans about 3x as fast as I used to which makes perfect sense considering I now live with Todd and work with Micah.

I'm having a girls' night tonight. We're going to watch chick flicks and pig out on ice cream sundaes and candy apples and have a sleepover. It should be lots of fun. Todd's gone for the weekend so I have the apartment to myself. I'm not sure what I'm going to do the rest of the time but I'm sure I'll find something.

I better get back to cleaning up before I leave for work.
